Taste are Competition Winners!

The Taste team are doing very will in the YE competition, winning all of the two rounds they have competed in so far.

Firstly, the team competed in the Preston Area final (29th. April 2010 at UCLan), where we were up against three other teams from Our Lady's High School, Archbishop High School and St. Cecilia's High School. We won this round with Our Lady's coming second - both teams then participated in the Lancashire West final.

The Lancashire West finals, held at Preston North End last night (13th. May 2010), saw the team competing against companies from Our Lady's High School, Lancaster Girls' Grammar School, Arnold School and Kirkham Grammar School. The team won this one as well and will now represent West Lancashire in the North West finals, to be held at Old Trafford on Tuesday 22nd. June.

Last Event for Taste

The Taste team from Longridge High School are celebrating their successes over the past nine months with a presentation and buffet today at Longridge High School. Their guests included parents of the pupils involved, the Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans, the mayor and mayoress of Longridge, Coun. Rupert Swarbrick and Katherine Swarbrick, Derek Hicks from Longridge Civic Hall, the head teacher of Barnacre Road Primary School, Simon Wallis and the manager of Sainsbury’s in Longridge. The managing director of the company (which is now liquidated), Thomas Calderbank, and his team gave numerous presentations on their progress over the past nine months and took ten minutes of questions and answers from the audience.

The MP for the Ribble Valley congratulated the team on their efforts. In a short speech to the audience, he said that the team should go into the forthcoming competition confident and to enjoy it. He invited the team on a tour of the Houses of Parliament if they reach the national final in London in July. The mayor of Longridge, Rupert Swarbrick also said he was astounded at the team’s efforts and offered the company the chance to continue under the Longridge Social Enterprise Company umbrella. The company was a member of the Longridge Business Group, run by Alistair at the Longridge Gallery. The head teacher of Longridge High School, Jane Green, spoke to the audience about when she came to the company’s food festival in November, saying the experience was “surreal”. She went to congratulate the team for their progress and thanked the guests for coming.

From next Thursday, the team will compete against Preston schools to be the winner of the Preston Area. The team face stiff competition from 4 other Young Enterprise companies, including ‘Eclectic’ from St Cecilia’s High School and ‘For the Occasion’ from Our Lady’s High School in Preston. The team are confident of winning the first heat of the competition. The Managing Director, Thomas Calderbank said “Our company is judged on three aspects; a trade stand we have produced ourselves, a business report, which is already being judged, and a 5 minute presentation. We have already seen what our competition is doing and we have developed strategies to hopefully beat them!”. If the company win the first round, they go up against Lancashire schools and Preston North End and then against North West schools in Manchester.

Taste is Liquidated

Today, Taste, Longridge High School's Young Enterprise Company, liquidated. The company now officially does not exist and their recipe books have come off sale. The team have finished their report and accounts and are currently preparing their trade stand and presentation for the upcoming YE competition final at UCLan on 29th. April 2010.

The company managing director, Thomas Calderbank said: "We would like to thank all of those who have helped us over the course of the past 9 months, especially our parents, link teacher Mr Tim Greaves, Miss Mason, Chris Brown, Rachael Parkinson and Rupert Swarbrick. The year has been a good experience for all 11 of us and we look forward to formally thanking our shareholders and other supporters on the 23rd. April when we have our presentation day in school"

Taste Sells its Books in Sainsbury's

Today, Taste sold their books at the newly opened branch of Sainsbury's in Longridge. The event was the company's final sales event, and they sold out of books by half past two! The operations director of Taste, Laura Sharples, said that the day was one of the most successful sales events this year (2010).

We would like to thank the store manager, Julia Blackett and the staff at Sainsbury's who helped us out on the day.

Interim Presentation Evening

Ten members of the Taste Young Enterprise Company Visited the Preston HQ of James Hall and Co. on Wednesday 27th. January 2010 to give a presentation on their activities so far. The other three companies from the Preston areas also gave thier presentations, and the team feels confident that they will be able to win the Preston area competition in April.

Taste Launches book at the 'Corper Deli'

Taste books are now available at the 'Corper Deli' Delicatessen in Longridge. The Corper Deli, who had a stall at the Taste Longridge Food Festival, have agreed to stock our books. The team hopes to be able to stock more shops in the locallity in the next few weeks. Deputy operations director, Naga Reddy, said "This is a brilliant first step into stocking shops, however we want the books to be available in several shops in Longridge and the area".

Taste Wins First Award

Taste Students Give Workshop on Enterprise to Barnacre Road Primary School Pupils

Eight company members of Taste gave workshops on business to the four junior classes (ages 7-11) at Barnacre Road Primary School. The workshops involved a brief presentation, followed by teams of pupils designing and presenting their ultimate Christmas present to the rest of their class. The winners won some fabulous prizes. PR Director, Nick Leaver, said "It's important that we, as a business, are seen making a positive contribution to the local community".

Taste Longridge Food Fair is a Success!

THE first ever TASTE Longridge Food Festival has been hailed a success by company members today. The food fair, which was organised and run entirely by Longridge High School’s Young Enterprise company, TASTE attracted visitors from across Lancashire, and the company estimate that approximately 500 people attended the event. The day was advertised through large posters and banners being placed at points throughout Longridge, leaflets put through most Longridge letter boxes and through an appearance on John ‘Gilly’ Gilmore’s Radio Lancashire show. A Radio Lancashire broadcasting van also paid the event a visit in the morning.

The fair comprised of 15 stands, with products ranging from vegetables to fudge to cordials to hand made chocolates. Neil Robinson, a local chef, carried out demonstrations throughout the day. Neil will be the head chef at the Longridge Station Buildings when they are opened in the new year. We also had a member of the team playing the piano at points during the day. The company’s managing director, Thomas Calderbank said “I think the day went very well indeed. We attracted many more people than we thought we would”, another company member, Matthew Leach said “The day was a huge success”. The response from visitors was also very positive. Karen Hankinson said “I got a leaflet for the event through my letter box last week. I like to support the school’s Young Enterprise teams, so I decided to come along and was amazed at the efforts of the team”. Nearly all the stall holders said that they had a good day and would like the team to hold another event after Christmas, but this still has to be discussed at the weekly meeting.

Taste Company Members star on Radio Lancashire

This afternoon four of TASTE's team starred on BBC Radio Lancashire's mid afternoon show, hosted by John Gillmore. The purpose of going on the radio was to talk about the Y.E. project and to promote our food fair, taking place on the 14th. November in Longridge Civic Hall.
